For over 22 years, the Gilbert has produced quality theater for the Fayetteville/Cumberland County community. Robyne Parrish, the Artistic Director at the the Gilbert, hopes that the line-up for season twenty-three will continue her vision of raising the bar of excellence at the The Gilbert Theater. Steel Magnolias By Robert Harling

September 23 – October 9, 2016

A young beautician, newly arrived in a small Louisiana town, finds work at the local salon, where a small group of women share a close bond of friendship and welcome her into the fold.

 


It’s a Wonderful Life By James Rodgers

Directed by Robyne Parrish

November 26 – December 18, 2016

Student matinee November 28 and December 5, 10am

The story of George Bailey, the Everyman from the small town of Bedford Falls, whose dreams of escape and adventure have been quashed by family obligation and civic duty, whose guardian angel has to descent on Christmas Eve to save him from despair and to remind him, by showing him what the world would have been like had he never been born – that his has been, after all, a wonderful life.


August Osage County By Tracey Letts

January 27th – February 12th, 2017

A look at the lives of the strong-willed women of the Weston family, whose paths have diverged until a family crisis brings them back to the Oklahoma house they grew up in, and to the dysfunctional woman who raised them.

 

 

 

Secret Garden By Norman and Simon

March 24 – April 9, 2017

Mary Lennox is orphaned when she is eleven years old. She is sent to live with relatives whom she has never met. Her own personality blossoms as she and a young gardener bring new life to a neglected garden, as well as to her sickly cousin and uncle.

The Diary of Anne Frank By Goodrich and Hackett

Directed by Brian Adam Kline

May 26 – June 4, 2017

Anne and her family share a claustrophobic attic with another family. Tension is often unbearable, as the people hiding know that their discovery by the enemy could lead to almost certain death at the hands of their captors.

The Gilbert Theater’s mission is to produce creative, innovative plays and events to stir its audiences and the students of its conservatory to explore and contemplate the human condition through the talents of local and guest artists.

The Gilbert provides access to quality contemporary, classical, and original theatrical productions for the Fayetteville/Cumberland County community regardless of socio-economic class. We strive allow local artists a venue for displaying and developing their unique writing and performing talents. We wish to continue growing a theatrical venue where artists produce quality and affordable theatre for audiences of all races, ages, and socio-economic backgrounds. As we are actively increasing our education component, one of our shows will be chosen with our student acting pool in mind.

Statement: When selecting the season, the Artistic Director, along with the Board of Directors, take into account stakeholders such as artists, educators, student populations, and regional audiences. A diverse array of selections is considered, which may include family productions with broad appeal, smart verbal pieces, dramatic storytelling, intimate musicals, contemporary pieces, comedies the classics, pieces that encourage ethnic, cultural, and economic diversity, and ALWAYS less common work that may be perceived by some as high risk for our community. Wheelchair and Accessible Seating In order to ensure that people with disabilities have the same opportunities to participate in and benefit from live performances, the Gilbert Theater provides the following: Wheelchair accessible seating The Gilbert provides wheelchair elevator access and spaces/accessible seating to accommodate people with disabilities in the theater. •Wheelchair accessible seats and companion seats are available for purchase exclusively by people with disabilities and their companions for every performance. •Wheelchair and companion seating is dispersed throughout the theater to ensure people with disabilities excellent lines of sight.
